PRINTlovers #104 - On Promotional

5067_tblimmagini_alt

Issue 104 of PRINTlovers inaugurates a cycle of monographs dedicated to the main application sectors of printing. In this first issue, we have delved into the segment of promotional and advertising objects, exploring the subject from different angles: trends, market, design, materials and printing techniques, while also recounting the socio-cultural evolution of this extraordinary form of communication over time. Not only the editorial line, but also the cover is renewed with a new layout and special finishing effects. The cover of issue 104 is a hymn to physical objects, capable of telling stories and giving emotions.

The design is by O,Nice! Studio
In our increasingly digital world, tangible objects retain a deep meaning that virtual and AI-generated creations cannot replicate. Physical objects convey stories through their texture, imperfections and unique characteristics, elements that algorithms cannot really capture. A handmade object, a vintage book or a carefully crafted ceramic mug embody human creativity and personal history. The sensory experience of real objects anchors us to physical reality: we can feel the warmth, smell the history and appreciate the craftsmanship in ways that pixels and algorithms cannot simulate.
The cover of PRINTlovers 104, on the theme of the promotional object, plays along two axes: the one between physical and digital and the one between real and spiritual. The object presented in the centre looks real, but it is a virtual object generated by artificial intelligence, even though it carries the invitation to believe in the physical reality of things and not the digital one. On the other hand, the circular arrangement of elements and the crown of small impossible objects are inspired by the construction of mandalas, works of art intended to inspire prayer and meditation.

How it is made

Printing and finishing
Grafica Metelliana has printed on Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 6-colour UV, guaranteeing the highest print quality and performance. The print was embellished with two hot foil effects, which immediately stand out, giving the design brilliance, vibrancy, elegance, and accuracy. The hot stamping was carried out with Brausse SIGNA 1050FI.

Hot foil colours
Oropress 422a69 and oropress 087c33. The combination of hot foil colours chosen for the cover resembles the iridescent hues of twilight. A holographic foil in silver with a ‘mini balls’ design was chosen for hot foil stamping Oropress code 422A69. This combination creates a three-dimensional effect that gives the lettering and images depth. A shiny metallic pink foil was used for hot stamping, code 087C33.
