How PRINTlovers #94 is made

The cover and back cover design is by DLV BBDO

For some people, the concept of luxury is linked in a narrow sense to an abundance of precious elements, which, like in lush vegetation, are layered, accumulating economic value. Conversely, some link luxury to a minimalist sense of aesthetics, where emptiness overpowers fullness, lack ignites desire, and uniqueness justifies expectation.

What if today, we tried to give luxury a new definition?
If we could consider it differently, trying to introject its meaning and questioning ourselves on its highest and noblest significance?
This back cover summarises the need to return to a slow time, to indulge in the ultimate luxury: to slow down. Embracing the kinetic stimuli of an increasingly fast-paced world without neglecting the importance of our inner world. An invitation to Rebirth, an expression that also represents the creative concept of the cover.

A finely crafted entire print run of copies made unique and different through the use of the latest technology to remind the user of its own uniqueness. Inspired by the thought expressed by H. D. Thoreau: 'in the end, all it takes is a walk in the woods and little else'.

Back cover printing and finishing - Varigrafica
The back cover for issue 94 of PRINTlovers pursues the concept of uniqueness, which Varigrafica has sought to bring even between the various printing and finishing steps through the total synergy between offset, traditional and digital.
We are therefore faced with a back cover that represents in each of its elements the uniqueness and luxury of being unique.
The initial starting points for these back covers - where speaking in the plural is a must - are given by the Offset Digital printing in total white using Komori Lithrone G40. This line of total white is then maintained, and the progressive numbering is carried out with the Indigo HP Digital system to emphasise each example's individuality.

From here, we move on to the finishing processes by hot foil stamping, where each colour of myMalmero paper is respectively matched with a colour of lumafin and hot foil. This is how the number and variability of unique back covers increase.
Following an enhancement rich in luminous foils and lumafin with translucent effects, we created a floral embossing, a reminder of nature and its power, of all its opulence that can be touched.

Paper - myCordenons
myMalmero is a paper characterised by a broad and sophisticated colour palette and a wove surface, the perfect choice for any project where colour is the lead. It features good bulk, tenacity and lightfastness. The range has recently been updated with the addition of 3 new colours (20 in total) and a new grammage, 375 g/m2. Matching envelopes in a square format in selected colours are also available.
myMalmero Perlè, enriched with elegant pearlescent inclusions, completes the myMalmero world with its sparkling touch. Available only in the Blanc and Noir variants, like its namesake, it has a beautiful, soft and pleasant feel characterised by its wove surface.

Colours and clichés - Luxoro
The concept of this issue wants to emphasise the simplicity of luxury: sometimes, it takes very little to be unique.
The different combinations of the various covers also include hot-printed effects; each different shade of LUMAFIN® on the THRIVE lettering has been paired with a different LUXOR® on the geometric shapes to create a contrast between glossy and metallic; the bright and elegant colours generate movement on the design and emphasise the uniqueness of each card.
In the background of each number, a composition of embossed flowers and leaves is perceptible to the touch and the eye, a refined print obtained with hinderer+mühlich clichés.
